ph INDICATOR lab
Standard: 5e. I know how to determine whether a solution is acidic, basic, or neutral.
1. This lab, and assignment, both meet the standard because they have to do with identifying the solution. We had to know the characteristics of acids, bases, and neutrals. When doing the lab, we had to use our senses, like smelling, in order to identify the solution. pH is very important, since it identifies what the solution is. We used litmus paper, in order to tell what it was( acid, base, or neutral). Later on, we had to write a conclusion about everything in terms of this topic.
2. One SEP that I have shown was being able to obtain, evaluate, and communicate information. I have shown that I understand what the pH scale means. I also was able to know what acids and bases are, as well as neutrals. This is good because this was what we discussed in class and it overall shows I was able to use this information.
3. One SEP I could have improved on was analyzing and interpreting data, in this case of the pH Lab Experiment. I got some help and answers from my teammates because I needed help with the data's results results. Improving in this will benefit me later because I can learn to not rely on my teammates so much on other future works/projects.
4. I can apply this in the future later on by knowing what the material or food has inside or how it feels and tastes. For instance, if I know that soap is a base, since it's slippery, I know that it will NOT corrode whatever I'm cleaning since I know that bases don't corrode things( only acids).
