greek mask project
8.VA.2.6- Design and create both additive and subtractive sculptures.
1. This project relates to the standard 8.VA.2.6 because in my mask, I had to know and understand how to put additives, which are the materials you put on your mask. This can act like decoration. Also, I had to know that subtractive means taking away or removing things. For instance, we had to remove the area where our eyes and mouth are in the mouth. This then can help us look through the mask.
2. Here are the following steps:
a. I first got a balloon and put paper mace all over it.
b. Secondly, I waited a day for it to dry .
c. Thirdly, I cut it in half.
d. Then I painted it.
e. After that, I cut the area where the mouth and eyes are.
f. Finally, I put some additives like paper.
3. This project demonstrates that I understand what additive and subtractive mean in terms of the mask project. I can be able to handle the paper mace well and I'm able to cut up the areas where the eyes and mouth are. I also have a good understanding of feelings and emotions when it comes to masks.
4. I could have improved on the mask in many ways. For instance, I could have made the paper mace less crumpled since it wasn't nice and smooth. I could've cut the eyes much neater since it was sort of messy.
5. I can apply this to the real world by helping someone in theater. Depending on the play, I can help the actors with the masks by picking the right emotion. This will then make the play go on greatly since the masks will fit with the theme of the play.
