colonies brochure
5.4.2 Students understand the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the colonial era.
Identify the major individuals and groups responsible for the founding of the various colonies and the reasons for their founding (e.g., John Smith, Virginia; Roger Williams, Rhode Island; William Penn, Pennsylvania; Lord Baltimore, Maryland; William Bradford, Plymouth; John Winthrop, Massachusetts).
1. This assignment meets the standard because in this assignment, we had to put the types of foods there were at a certain colony that we were assigned to. In terms of social institutions, we had to write the life there and also jobs(which is what I put). Also, we had to put the person who found the colony that you were assigned. Based on the guide, we had to put why the colony was becoming that way. For example in terms of what I wrote about my colony, I said that the purpose of the colony is to show an example for the world. John Winthrop, the founder of Massachusetts said '' We shall be as a city upon a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us.'' This means that Massachusetts is like the leader. They are the ones who stand for the others. Another thing about Massachusetts is the resources there, which include fish, corn, livestock, pumpkins, squash, and beans.
2. One skill that I developed from this assignment is being able to do the convincing in the Lifestyles section. Plus, when I was doing the convincing, I was able to use my knowledge about Massachusetts(my assigned colony). This could help me in life if I want to convince someone. Of course, I have to first have facts before discussing. In terms of the convincing, I had to explain the reason why some people should come and move in my colony. I said in the brochure that little children can play in the farm, since adults farm, and that women can sew. Also, men who like to hunt should also come. These details that I explained had to do with my convincing to others.
3. One part I could have improved on this work was adding more information in the Lifestyles section. It is because it wouldn't be too short and a little vague. Adding more details is always good since you have more to talk about. This can help me on future works because in those other works, I can have more to show and more to present, which would be really great.
4. I can apply this to the real world if I wanted to make a brochure about a certain place I visited and loved. When I make the brochure, I can give it to someone who will be visiting the place and he/she will find out what will be going on there.
