dissection lab conclusion
7.LS.5a I know plants and animals have levels of organization for structure and function, including cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, & the whole organism.
7.LS.5b I know organ systems function because of the contributions of individual organs, tissues, and cells. The failure of any part can affect the entire system.
1. This assignment relates to these standards because this assignment talks about understanding and knowing about the organs in the fetal pig. We had to identify the organ very well so that we can understand what it is and what its main function is. Also, we had to be able to know that if one organ, like the heart or lungs, stops working, than the whole system will stop working and will also not be able to perform its job.
2. Here are the following steps it took me:
a. I had to first dissect a fetal pig with a group so that we can open the pig and see its organs.
b. My group and I had to pull out the organs and put it in a jar, which was filled with preservable liquid.
c. After finishing dissecting the pig, we had to answer some questions about our experience and what we found inside the fetal pig.
3. This assignment demonstrates that I'm able to handle the fetal pig and also the tools with caution and care. I can handle the first time dissecting an animal and I can touch the organs without feeling disgusted. When I did the questions, I was able to answer them thoroughly with good answers.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by being detailed with my answers. I should have made it more descriptive when I was drawing my pictures of the fetal pig's structures. These were overall how I could have improved on the Lab Dissection Conclusion questions.
5. I can apply this to the real world when I become a scientist. If I find a dead animal( like a dead pigeon), I can try dissecting it. I can probably take it to a secret place and I can use a knife to cut open it to see all of its organs and blood vessels. I can compare and contrast it to a my experience in dissecting the pig's inner body. I can see if they have similar structures like the fetal pig, and I can also see if there any other new organs to be discovered!
